A new era will be called “Rave” (“Order and harmony”), reports Japanese TV channel NHK.

The Secretary-General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Yoshihide Suga called the representatives of the media the name of the era and demonstrated how characters it is shortly before noon on Monday.

He explained that the title comes from the oldest existing Japanese poetry anthologies “Manyoshu”, presumably written in the period from VII to late VIII century.

It is also reported that people throughout the country count the days remaining until special moment in the history of the country – the Emperor’s abdication from the throne, after which a new era will begin, opening a new page unique Japanese calendar.

85-year-old Emperor Akihito leaves the throne on April 30 in old age. In 1989 it was proclaimed the reign of the new Emperor and the era of Heisei which means “peace”.

After the accession to the throne crown Prince, Naruhito will begin a new era in the history of Japan.

The names of the eras are called in Japanese”, gengo”. This tradition originates from China, so each name has auspicious Chinese characters.

Before the names of the eras were changed after the change of Emperor, a serious disaster or on any auspicious occasion, however, with the beginning of the Meiji era in 1868 entered into force the system of “one Emperor – one era”.

This system was legalized in 1979, when a law was passed that gave the government the name of the new era only after the accession to the throne of the new Emperor.
