MPs ask for urgent measures for the modernization and reconstruction of sewage treatment plants. In the resort towns of Zatoka and Sergeevka there are problems with quality drinking water.

Odessa regional Council appealed to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the Cabinet of Ministers to take measures to prevent man-caused environmental disaster that threatens the resort area on the black sea in Bilhorod-dnistrovs’kyy district of the region and the Dniester estuary.
As UNIAN correspondent, the corresponding decision deputies adopted today during the meeting.
In particular, approved the appeal to the Zelensky and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Goncharuk.
The document notes that in the city of Belgorod-Dniester, towns Zatoka and Sergeevka the above district was threatening environmental situation. It is associated with almost no drinking water, catastrophic status of sewage treatment facilities, and poor sanitary and environmental situation of the Dniester estuary, the coastal zone of the Black sea and adjacent areas.
“To achieve safe living conditions, development of strategic directions in the field of tourism, we ask you to take urgent measures for the modernization and reconstruction of treatment facilities of the city of Belgorod-Dniester, Zatoka at the expense of the state budget, or attracted investment,” – said in the appeal.

It says that the deterioration of water quality as a consequence of discharge of polluted waste waters into water bodies, which in turn leads to a reduction of promotion of marine and semivodny fauna, poisoning the local residents and tourists in the summer.
The document stresses that centralized Sewerage system for wastewater treatment in the above mentioned localities outdated and do not meet modern requirements.
While the emergency lines of Sewerage networks are not liquidated in a timely manner, the local authorities are not able to find funds for the repair and proper operation of the sewage treatment plants.
In addition, there is no continuous monitoring of their performance, leading to contamination of land and underground aquifers.
As emphasized, further operation data of sewer networks and stations threat to livelihoods of local people and tourists.
It is noted that the Odessa region occupies a leading position among the tourist regions of Ukraine. In particular, the city of Belgorod-Dniester, towns Zatoka and Sergeevka is visited annually by thousands of tourists.
