The Ministry of health of Ukraine proposes to ban testing cosmetics on animals. This was reported by press service of the Ministry on January 16. The health Ministry has proposed for public discussion the draft Technical regulation on cosmetic products, which is developed on the basis of EU regulation No. 1223/2009.

“Thanks to the new technical regulations of the Ukrainians will use high quality and safe cosmetic products. If today the list of prohibited for use in cosmetic products ingredients is 400, the technical regulation sets 1328, and also provides for the use of only permitted colorants, preservatives, UV filters,” said the Department.

It is noted that the document will allow Ukrainian producers to export cosmetics, and foreign – post production on Ukrainian territory.

“One of the important aspects of the new regulations is to ban the testing of cosmetics on animals and to enable foreign and local companies to use the latest technological developments, in particular alternative methods to test cosmetic products. Such rules have several years of operate in the European Union”, –added in the Ministry of health.

For the smooth development of the cosmetic business in Ukraine, the Ministry of health plans to provide for a transition period to implement the new rules testing of cosmetics.

“With the introduction of new technical regulations, foreign companies that have refused to test their products on animals, will be able to sell their products on the Ukrainian market based on the results of studies of alternative methods. In parallel, the Ministry will implement new testing requirements, providing a transition period for national companies on the introduction of new methods of Toxicological research,” – said the Agency.
