UEFA and FFU assumed treatment costs of the arbitrator Becker

KIEV. 25 Jan. UNN. Sergey Bekker was assigned to the Ukrainian referees as an assistant referee on match of the League of Nations Greece – Estonia. However, before he had a stroke, and now he’s being treated at the rehabilitation center of Athens, reports UNN with reference to the statement of the FFU.

“November 17, the referees had to hold a traditional training session before the match. Then Sergei walked in the lobby. When colleagues went to his room, it turned out that Sergei needed urgent medical care because he suffered a stroke.

Fortunately, thanks to the professional actions of our staff and ambulance crews to our compatriot managed to save a life. Until December 20, Sergey Becker was treated at a local hospital and then was transferred to a rehabilitation center in Athens, where he is now,” the message reads.

According to General Secretary of the football Federation of Ukraine Yuri Zapisannogo, the football Federation of Ukraine immediately offered his assistance Becker.

“The UEFA Committee of umpires and his personal Manager Roberto Rosetti also connected to aid and monitoring the situation. But our colleagues from UEFA, we were assured that payment for treatment in Greece, and rehabilitation in the first months they take. Also it has repeatedly been confirmed in many subsequent negotiations and correspondence. “UEFA will come to the rescue and compensates for the medical expenses of the arbitrator in the hospital plus two or three months in a rehabilitation centre,” reads the letter from UEFA.

For today all accounts that provided a hospital for the treatment of Sergei paid. For our part, we informed the doctors that, as soon as possible to transport Sergei in the Ukraine, the football Federation of Ukraine will take over the respective services or flights, or in case of impossibility of flights for medical reasons, hire appropriate specialized vehicle. We also understand that Sergei will require further rehabilitation in Ukraine and FFU are ready to pay for it”, – he said.

According to the Chairman of the Committee of arbitrators FFU Luciano Beam, in the first days in a Greek hospital together with Mr Becker remains one of our referees.

“He was there until the moment when Athens was visited by the relatives of Sergey. The state of health of the referee was always interested in the leaders of the FFU, Yuri Zapesotsky was continuously in touch with the Department of arbitration of UEFA, representatives of Federation of football of Greece. All expenses for treatment of the Ukrainian arbitrator in the Greek hospital took over UEFA. Representatives of the Committee of referees are constantly in touch with our colleague and his family. Know rehabilitation Sergey is quite successful – he is able to move independently. But it is waiting for further rehabilitation. During a recent gathering of referees and assistants on their own initiative decided to raise funds and to family of Sergei. We supported this decision. FFU President, Federation management, all colleagues are worried about Sergei and wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.
