U.S. authorities suspect the top-Manager of Group-IB Nikita Kislitsina of involvement in the hacking of the service of questions and answers Formspring. It is reported Cyberscoop.
According to investigators, in 2012, Kislitsina an unnamed accomplice broke into the service and stolen user data, after which Kislitsyn tried to sell them to another partner for 5.5 million euros.
In a statement, Group-IB received at the disposal of TV channel “Rain”, says that in April 2012 Kislitsin went to the USA to work as an “independent researcher of cyber threats”, and in January 2013 he was accepted to work in Group-IB. Prior to joining the company, he worked as a researcher and editor of the journal “Hacker”, and, according to Group-IB, has never concealed his previous activities during the recruitment process. He also worked as an independent researcher threats in the United States in 2012.
In the same year, according to the company, Kislitsin and his colleagues met with officials of the Ministry of justice to transmit information about the “research work related to the underground”, which Kislitsin conducted in 2012. The details of this work are not reported. The company intends to “support” Kislitsina and now consult on this matter with international lawyers.
As noted Cyberscoop, the case Kislitsina connected with the case of another Russian – Eugene Nikulin, who is accused of stealing data of the users of Formspring, LinkedIn and Dropbox and selling them. Nikulin was detained in Prague in 2016 and extradited to the United States. The trial will begin on 9 March. According to the lawsuit, Nikulin, Kislitsin and two alleged cyber criminals Oleg Tolstoy and Alexander Eremenko were present during the meeting 2012 in one of the Moscow hotels, where allegedly discussed the beginning of the business Internet café.
Meanwhile there are no reports that Kislitsin was detained by authorities of the United States or any other country. In addition, neither the company Group-IB, nor Kislitsin not received “any official summonses, notices or invitations for the upcoming trial” of Evgeny Nikulin. Group-IB reported, have received Kislitsin any notice from the Ministry of justice concerning his own Affairs. Kislitsin also refuses to comment about it.
