Torture at Odessa SIZO: GPU reported about suspicion

Yesterday, September 14, investigators of Prosecutor’s office announced on suspicion of torture of detainees Odessa SIZO, acting head of the southern interregional management on the execution of criminal sanctions and probation service of the Ministry of justice. This was reported in Facebook the Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko.

According to him, the critical situation in the Odessa prison, where the defendant was killed this officer, and the management of the prison service organized the mass beating of prisoners, was the last straw.

“The principled position of the Ombudsman Valeria Lutkovskaya became the start of drastic changes. In my view the Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman instructed the Minister of justice to reorganise the prison service,” – said Lutsenko.

According to him, the main problem is a complete update of the guideline, a salary increase to employees to seven thousand UAH, bringing the area of the detention to the European requirements, specific anti-corruption solutions in a prison production of food.

August 17, around 19:00 the police received the message that in Odessa prison employee has disappeared. After several hours of search her dismembered body was discovered in a dumpster on-site detention facility.

The prisoner, murder suspect, lived in the utility room and in his cell was not more than a month, while he had illegal access to piercing and cutting items.

Prison chief dismissed from his post.
