Tokyo will resume funding for UNESCO

The government of Japan has decided to resume funding of the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization (UNESCO), which in October 2016 was terminated in fact, in protest against the decision of the organization for inclusion in the world heritage List of documents about the massacre in the Chinese city of Nanjing in 1937. It is reported by UNN with reference to the Japanese TV channel NHK.
Now Tokyo has changed its policy, assessing the intention of the leadership of UNESCO in the future to avoid the issues that cause political tension.
Japanese contribution to the organization’s budget in the amount of 35 million U.S. dollars will be translated until the end of December. The termination of funding from Tokyo was a heavy blow, as it accounted for 10.8% of the income of UNESCO.

The organization in 2015, according to China’s proposal was included in the list of programs for the protection of the world documentary heritage archival materials about the mass killings, arranged by the Japanese army in 1937 after the capture of Nanjing, the then Chinese capital. The Japanese foreign Ministry then stated that the Beijing documents distort history and “based on unilateral judgments”. Tokyo had a massacre in Nanjing, but argues that the number of deaths no evidence, and in this respect, according to the Japanese side, there can be different approval. Therefore, the government of Japan, it is wrongful to recognize only those documents that reflect the positions of Beijing.
