25 teams came to the start of the Hyperloop Pod Competition, but only three were destined to reach the finals. Munich Warr, canadian and Swiss Paradigma Swissloop. Three teams, three different technologies, three interesting results, which will give the further development of the transport system Hyperloop.
The rules are simple: there is a pipe with low pressure length of 1.25 km you need to drive as quickly as possible. Participants are free to use the method of acceleration of the capsule, which they like, within reason. Team Warr designed an ultralight (80 kg) electric car with engine capacity of 50 KW. They are all perfectly calculated – the same engineers won the past a similar competition in January.
Second place went to students who were inspired by the SpaceX project. At the start they used the boost module, by analogy with the booster, and then the capsule was flying exactly in the center of the pipe due to its aerodynamic properties. However, to accelerate they managed to only 101 km/h to 320 km/h the winner – space technology on Earth does not always guarantee success.
The Swiss do not philosophize, and put it on the Hyperloop capsule to a jet engine. There was a lot of noise, loss of communications and risks, and the maximum recorded speed was only 40 km/h And this suggests that a clear understanding of the principles of operation and development of the Hyperloop system in the world yet. Either there is no unity of opinion – the same Mask trolls the participants, on the road wondering why no one clocked up 1000 km/h in the “hothouse conditions”?
Wait for the next contest and see what conclusions have you made for yourself leading experts in the industry.
