The number of is militants over the past year has significantly decreased and currently ranges from 12 thousand to 20 thousand people. The volume of funding is estimated in the tens of millions of dollars per month. This is stated in the last report of the UN Secretary General.

According to the report, has slowed in Iraq and Syria foreign fighters from a number of areas. Now, however, a serious threat to international security creates the return of militants to their countries and their movement from the zone of conflict to other regions.

The threat from ISIS increases due to the active use of Internet and social networking for recruitment, the report said.

UN Secretary-General notes that from the point of view of financing of the IG is at a critical stage.

During the year the group’s financial position has changed significantly. Although in the past 16 months it has continued to deteriorate, the IG still uses two main sources: hydrocarbons and extortion/taxation. “The IG still manages the income of several tens of millions of dollars a month”, – said in the report.

The Secretary General suggests that, because these income sources tied to the territory, as ISIS continues to lose to new areas, income will continue to decrease. “Apparently, the IG is not found new sources of revenue that could compensate for the gradual loss of their current income from two main sources.”

It is noted that in addition to income their aforementioned sources, ISIS also receives income from smuggling of Antiques and the sale of agricultural products, electricity and mineral resources.
