The U.S. Congress approved the defense budget from $350 million for Ukraine
Uncategorized November 9, 2017In the US the committees on Armed services of the house of representatives and the Senate adopted a compromise draft defense budget for the 2018 fiscal year. It provides $350 million for Ukraine, including in the form of lethal weapons. This is stated in the official explanations, reports UKRINFORM.
“The law allows the allocation of $350 million to assist Ukraine in the field of security, including defensive lethal assistance”, – the document says.
In the law there are limitations – at least half of the amount allocated only after the Pentagon confirmed that Ukraine has taken significant measures to implement institutional reforms in the defense sphere.
In the U.S. defense budget of $4.6 billion provided to counter Russian aggression. The document also authorizes to allocate $58 million to respond to Russia’s violation of treaties on arms reduction.
For defense it is planned to allocate $700 billion, $26.1 billion higher than the official request of the President.
The bill must pass a General vote in the House of representatives and the Senate, then go to the President of the United States.
In September, the U.S. Senate endorsed the increase in the defense budget to $73 billion.
Before the Senate approved the draft law on the budget, which allocated $500 million to support Ukraine in security and defense.
