The national police in Zhytomyr region detained a large-scale gang of extortionists

KIEV. March 6. UNN. Employees of office of strategic investigations, criminal investigation Department and the Investigation Department of the GUNP Cord and soldiers together with field investigators of USBU under the procedural leadership of regional Prosecutor’s office stopped activity of an organized criminal group, which specialized in the extortion of businessmen. On March 6, in two districts of the Zhytomyr region in a special operation arrested a dozen gang members, reports UNN citing the press service of the National police of Ukraine.
As we know from the collected materials, the composition of the organized criminal group consisted of more than a dozen people ranging in age from 22 to 45 years. They are residents of the Zhytomyr region, almost all earlier judged for Commission of serious crimes, including robberies and robberies.
“While law enforcement officers documented their illegal activities, which consisted in extorting money from private entrepreneurs of the region under threat of physical violence against them or members of their families. The police have reasonable grounds to believe that in some cases, these threats are realized. On March 6, in two districts of Zhytomyr region the bandits were detained during the transfer of funds from local residents”, — stated in the message of the police.
In the city of Novohrad-Volynskyi the leader of the gang, a resident of the city, and another one of the gang members, a resident of the district demanded 3 thousand US dollars from local resident for settling the artificially provoked conflict with the representative of local criminals. Upon receipt of $ 800 they were detained commandos.
At the same time, in the village of Lyubar six members of the group were detained by the soldiers of cord in the transfer tranche of 10 thousand hryvnias. Gangsters under the pretext of “debt” entrepreneur, who has a store in the local market demanded 2 thousand US dollars. In case of failure the man was threatened with injury to his young children and wife.
