The Ministry of justice checks on the beating of prisoners Odessa prison

The Ministry of justice is conducting an internal investigation in connection with allegations of beating prisoners Odessa prison after the murder of the employee. About that today at the briefing said acting head of the southern regional Directorate of criminal punishment execution and probation of the Ministry of justice Anatoly Kovtun, reports UNIAN.

“Today, the Ministry of justice is conducting an internal investigation on the facts that have been reported in the media, the Internet and so on”, – said Kovtun.

According to him, thorough review of the prison staff who took part in the searches, in which on August 18 was beaten by the prisoners.

According to Kovtun, currently official statements about the beating of prisoners was received. At the same time, he stressed that he could neither confirm nor deny the fact of beating.

“Four days is checked. If the facts are confirmed and proved, will be punished up to dismissal from posts”, – he said.

We will remind, earlier the Deputy Minister of justice Denis Chernyshov saidthat the searches in the Odessa SIZO was planned. Chernyshov said that he signed the order about the searches, during which, according to him, was discovered “a lot of prohibited items”. The official did not comment on the information about the beatings of prisoners after the incident of the murder.

Today the GPU has published a video with the facts of inhuman treatment of detainees. The Odessa Prosecutor changed the legal qualification of the criminal proceedings for torture, which provides for 10 years imprisonment.
