The leaders of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Avdullah Hoti has agreed to hold talks in Washington in June, said the US special envoy for settlement between Serbia and Kosovo, Richard Grenell on Twitter.
“I received assurances from the governments of Kosovo and Serbia in readiness to temporarily stop the campaign to stop recognition, and receive an international membership, to meet in Washington at the White house on June 27 for talks over the future of the dialogue”, – he wrote.
If any party is dissatisfied with the outcome of the talks on 27 June, they will return to the current status-quo after leaving Washington, he added Grenell.
Previously, the newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in the US administration said that the President of the United States Donald trump has invited the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo sit at the negotiations table in the White house at the end of June.
According to her, Serbia has confirmed receipt of the invitation to the White house, the meeting is scheduled for June 27. Prime Minister of Kosovo Avdullah Hoti, sworn on 3 June, confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that his government would like to take part in negotiations mediated by the United States.
Kosovo and Metohija, the Serbian Autonomous region, populated by the Albanian majority in 2008 unilaterally declared independence, which was recognized by several dozen countries in Europe, the Arab world and the United States, Australia and New Zealand, reports “Interfax”.
Serbia and Russia has not recognized Kosovo’s independence.
