The head of the National Assembly (unicameral Parliament) of Venezuela Juan Guido said Friday that the Venezuelan Constitution allows him to exercise the powers of the President. The corresponding statement was published in the parliamentary Twitter, reports TASS. “The Constitution gives me the right to hold the office of President and call an election. However, I need the support of citizens to make it happen,” said Guido.
The head of the Parliament refers to article 233, 333 and 350 of the Venezuelan Constitution, which States that in case of impossibility of execution of his presidential duties, the power goes to the head of the National Assembly.
Guido also added that the opposition starts to work on the organization “a major national protest, scheduled for 23 January.”
