Today, March 25, in Rome the 27 leaders of the European Union, including Poland, signed a joint Declaration that defines the future of the European Union.
“We will work together, depending on the needs and at different speeds, simultaneously going in the same direction”, – stated in the Rome Declaration.
“The European Union is inseparable and indivisible”, – the document says.
The ceremony at the Roman hill in the Capitol recalls the 60th anniversary of the signing of the treaties of Rome which gave birth to European integration. Participation in the celebrations was attended by the leaders of the 27 member States of the European Union, however, without the UK, which is preparing to leave the Community.
A joint document defines directions of development of the European Union and underlines past achievements of European integration.
“Make the European Union stronger and more stable thanks to greater unity and solidarity between us and, subject to the General principles,” the document says.
“Separate from each other, we would have remained isolated through global dynamics. Total we have more opportunities to influence it and to protect our common interests and values”, – said the head of state and government.
“We work together, depending on the needs and at different speeds, with different intensity, at the same time going in the same direction as it had done in the past, according to the Contracts, without denying those who want to join later,” said the leaders of the European Union.
EU leaders pledged in the Declaration to work towards four goals: increase security through the protection of external borders and the fight against terrorism, economic growth, support social policy, namely the fight against unemployment and social exclusion, the strengthening of the EU in the international arena.
