According to EU regulations, visa-free entry is granted on the condition of reciprocity. The UK government already stated that it intends to impose visas on EU citizens travelling to the UK for a short stay.

In the case that the United Kingdom will introduce a visa requirement for nationals of at least one member state of the EU in the future, will apply the mechanism of reciprocity.

The European Commission will monitor compliance with the principle of reciprocity and to immediately inform the European Parliament and the EU Council of any developments that may threaten the observance of this principle.
