KIEV. 28 Feb. UNN. The clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in Italy instructed to strictly follow the orders of the authorities to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, said Friday managing parishes, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe and Western European Korsun Metropolitan Anthony, writes UNN with reference to the Federal Agency TASS.

Earlier, the head of the Patriarchal Commission for family Affairs Archpriest Dimitry Smirnov suggested that the parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in Italy have the right not to obey the requirement of local authorities regarding the possible closure of the Church due to the epidemic of the coronavirus.

“The clergy was promptly instructed to adhere strictly to the orders of the government and steadily implement the relevant directives aimed at preventing the spread of the disease”, — quotes the words of the cleric of the Synodal Department for relations between the Russian Orthodox Church with society and the media.

Anthony noted that in the administration of the Italian parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate “I was deeply concerned about the continuing spread of the coronavirus in the Northern regions of Italy, where most of the local communities of the Russian Orthodox Church”.

The Metropolitan added that similar instructions received from the Supreme authority of the clergy of the other Orthodox jurisdictions in Italy and the clergy of the several dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church.
