As UNIAN reported earlier, on January 16, 2017 Ukraine has started a case at the International court of justice against the Russian Federation in connection with its multiple and systematic violations of the International Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism and the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.
The document reflected the facts of repressions against the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar activists in the occupied Crimea.
The international court of justice in the Hague on 19 April 2017 announced the decision, which partially granted the request of Ukraine on the application of provisional measures against Russia. Measures related to the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (CERD).
The court pointed out that Russia must refrain from in order to continue to limit the ability of Crimean Tatars to preserve their institutions, including the Parliament. For this decision voted 13 judges against three. The decision was unanimous, according to which Russia must ensure the availability of education in the Ukrainian language.
Regarding accusations of Russia in violation of the International Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism, the court decided that Ukraine had not provided enough evidence that would have been a substantial basis for the application of provisional measures.
12 June 2018 Ukraine submitted to the international court of justice Memorandum on racial discrimination in the Crimea and the funding of terrorism. In particular, Ukraine has turned on the fact that the deliveries to Donbas Russian anti-aircraft missile complex “Buk”, which was shot down Malaysian plane “Boeing 777” (flight MH17), in a Memorandum on the financing of Russian terrorism.
