Former drummer of the Beatles Ringo Starr received for her services to music knighthood. Henceforth it should contact “sir Ringo”. About it reports Russian service of the BBC.

Among the new knights – former member of the Bee Gees Barry Gibb and former head of the British liberal democratic party Nick Clegg.

Among the awarded the Order of the British Empire includes actor Hugh Laurie and musician from the band Soft Cell mark almond.

Information about the upcoming assignment of a knightly title of sir Ringo was leaked to the media even before the official announcement. 20 years ago the same honour was awarded to another musician “fab four”, Paul McCartney.

And before that, in 1965, order of the British Empire was awarded to all members of the group.

Ringo Starr, living in Los Angeles, said: “It is wonderful! I am honored and thrilled that you appreciated my contribution in music and charity work, which I love to do. Peace and love”.

Liverpool Cavern club with performances which began the history of the Beatles, noted that knighted Ringo Starr had to be present for a long time.

The list of people awarded this year’s top awards – 1123 name. Of these, 70% was noted for his social activities.

The British authorities noted that next time the prize list will include people who have distinguished themselves in extinguishing the fire at Grenfell tower, as well as citizens who showed valor in defending people from criminals who staged the attack and Manchester.

Party Bee Gees-sir Barry Gibb said he was very flattered by the award and pleased that his music and charity work has been recognised with a knighthood.

In 2002 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire. At the same time this award was received by his brothers Maurice and Robin Gibb. “That title rightfully belongs to them”, – said the musician.

Members of the Bee Gees grew up in Manchester and became famous in the 1960-ies. Their best achievement is the soundtrack to the film “Saturday night Fever” in 1977.

Former liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, also expressed his gratitude for the title of knight, but stressed that is not going to sit in the house of lords, despite the fact that knighthood gives him that right.

“Chivalry does not mean that in the future I intend to work in the house of lords. I have saved antipathy to legislative bodies that are not elected,” – said the politician.

It Mordaunt Cohen, received the Order of the British Empire for educational activities dedicated to the events of the Second world war, and Helena Jones, awarded the Medal of the British Empire for his work with youth and community activities.
