The authorities of Odessa has cancelled held Saakashvili’s de-communization of the streets
Uncategorized April 27, 2017Deputies of the Odessa city Council on Wednesday, April 26, voted for the repeal of renaming of streets of the regional center implemented in 2016, the then head of the Odessa regional state administration Mikhail Saakashvili in the framework of de-communization. The draft decision was included in the agenda of the session with voices, and the list of new titles for some members not even distributed, so they were forced to vote blindly, according to local newspaper the Duma.
According to the Deputy Oleg Bryndak, representing the project, some streets renamed when Saakashvili “does not exist”, and the names of other supposedly by that time it was decompensirovanny at the initiative of the toponymic Commission of the city Council.
Full list of renamed streets have not yet been published, however, the media reportsthat at least 56 toponymic objects have been renamed in accordance with the last recommendations of the historical-toponymic Commission, which handed down for public hearings.
In particular, the city Council of Odessa returned, the original names of the street and the lane grandma, the streets Biryukova, Valentina Tereshkova (in 2016 has been renamed to Heroes of Kruty), Goncharova, oberski, Belinsky, Badaeva, lane Bogdanova (in 2016 has been renamed to Wilhelm of Habsburg) as not subject to the law on decommunization.

The deputies returned to the former name and the prospect of hundreds of Heaven – he became Marshal Zhukov. At the same time in honor of the Heavenly hundred, the city Council renamed the former street of Karl Liebknecht (in 2016, was named after Nikolai Troitsky), and same-name lane – in honor of the Heroes of Kruty. Disappeared from the map of Odessa street Roman Shukhevych (former Yaroslav Galan) – now called Defenders of the Fatherland.
In addition, eight Chapaevskaya streets, renamed under Saakashvili in honor of those killed in the ATO area residents of the Odessa region, the city Council again gave the same name – Starokazachye.
21 February 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on decommunization of the names of local administrations.
