Switzerland has extended sanctions against Yanukovych
Uncategorized December 20, 2017The Swiss Federal Council decided to extend the freezing of assets of Viktor Yanukovych. This is stated on the website of the Federal Council.
In addition, this solution also applies to ex-President Ben Ali of Tunisia.
“The purpose of this action is to support the judicial cooperation between Switzerland and these two countries (Ukraine and Tunisia – ed.)”, – stated in the message.
“The decision of the Federal Council on the extension of the asset freeze is justified because the purpose of sanctions is not fully achieved, and the legal grounds for its extension remain valid. It is expected that this extension will lead to tangible progress in the investigation of cases and increase the likelihood of a return of assets in the country of origin”, reads the message of the Federal Council of Switzerland.
Recall that in January 2017, President Petro Poroshenko said in Davos that Ukraine and Switzerland outlined the timetable for the return of frozen assets of Yanukovych.
