The Spanish foreign Minister Josep Borrell announced the signing of a tax agreement with the UK governing the situation of Gibraltar after Brexit. This publication reports El Pais.
“Today has signed a tax Treaty to Gibraltar,” said Borrell.
According to him, “this is the first international agreement signed between Spain and the United Kingdom on Gibraltar after the Treaty of Utrecht”.

According to the newspaper, the parties have agreed that individuals who spend more than six months in Spain and also visited most of the assets or income in Spanish territory will have to pay taxes in the Iberian Kingdom.
Now the agreement must be approved by the Council of Ministers and ratified by Parliament.
Gibraltar is a British overseas territory on the Iberian Peninsula, the contested Madrid. The political sensitivity of this issue in Anglo-Spanish relations remained muted until both countries were in the EU. However, after Brexit, the people of Gibraltar could lose access to the European market.
