Smoked on the beach – in prison: Thailand introduces environmental ban
Uncategorized October 12, 2017Violators of the new law in Thailand that prohibits Smoking on the beaches, will face up to a year in prison. The decision was made after environmentalists announced 138 collected thousands of cigarette butts along the 2.5 km Patong beach in Phuket. About it reports the Ukrainian office of service Bi-bi-si.
“The ban, which will come into force next month, will first touch the 20 beaches of Thailand, but subject to the success of this event can apply across the country”, – stated in the message.
We are talking about the beaches in Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chonburi, and Songkhla, as well as the popular resorts of Samui and Pattaya.
For smokers on the coast are special places. Sanctions for violation of the prohibition require up to a year in prison or a fine up to 100 thousand baht (about $3000).
Thai officials are now deciding what to do with the cigarette butts which tourists throw into the water from boats.
