Saakashvili denied political asylum in Ukraine.
The former head of the Odessa regional state administration can now be deported from Ukraine
The state migration service refused the ex-head of Odessa regional state administration to Mikheil Saakashvili in political asylum in Ukraine. This was stated by Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko, transfers “112 Ukraine“.
“We have some news, if I had previously stated that he has a status that eliminates any way for his deportation or extradition, now the State migration service, where he wrote a statement, denied him refugee status. Mr. Saakashvili, as always, to the court of appeal against this decision is not appealed. So now he is a stateless person, without any special circumstances that might preclude his deportation or extradition. And the State migration service knows that for sure,” said the attorney General.
We will remind, earlier Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko stated that there are circumstances, which prevent extradition of Saakashvili in Georgia.
“Mr. Saakashvili after illegally crossing the Ukrainian border, filed documents to the Federal migration service of the interior Ministry, which, according to our international obligations, prevent his extradition,” – said Lutsenko.
Saakashvili crossed the Ukrainian border from Poland on 10 September. Mostyska district court of Lviv region appointed him to 3, 4 thousand hryvnias of a penalty for illegally crossing the border.
