Putteman: Rajoy is trying to eliminate democracy in Catalonia
Uncategorized October 22, 2017 The head of the government of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme in the Catalans stated that the decision of the Spanish government headed by Mariano Rajoy on the introduction of direct rule of the Central government in Catalonia is “an attempt to eliminate our democracy”. “The government of Spain with the support of the Socialist party and the Citizens began to the worst attack on the institutions and the population of Catalonia since, as the decrees of a military dictator Francisco Franco abolished the Generalitat of Catalonia (government of Catalonia, in 1939 – ed.)”, the statement reads Pokdemon.
According to him, the government of Rajoy “announces a number of measures that directly represent the elimination of our government and the democratic will of Catalans”.
“The government of Mariano Rajoy wants to appoint managers for remote control of life of Catalonia from Madrid. The government is not an institution that was born in accordance with the Constitution of Spain. Long before the adoption of the great Charter, the Government has functioned and were temporarily restored on the basis of its historical legitimacy and continuity… No decision of any government can not be reduced over time this constant fact: the will of the Catalans allowed us to protect and restore our institutions”, – said the Prime Minister of Catalonia.
Pujdeme asked the Catalan Parliament to convene a plenary meeting to “make the decision to attempt to eliminate our government and our democracy and act accordingly”. He also urged other European Nations to show solidarity with Catalonia.
“If the European fundamental values are under threat in Catalonia, they are also at risk in Europe. Democratic decision about the future of the nation is not a crime. This is contrary to the fundamentals that unite European citizens through their diversity. Catalonia is an ancient European nation. It is of key importance to European values. We do what we do because we believe in democratic and peaceful Europe,”- tried to justify the independence referendum, the Prime Minister of Catalonia.
Today the Spanish government headed by Mariano Rajoy decided to use against Catalonia 155-th article of the Constitution, which means the introduction of direct rule officials of Madrid in Catalonia, and to significantly limit the powers of the Parliament of Catalonia, as well as to hold new elections to it. The head of the government of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme should resign. The decision of the government of Spain will acquire legitimacy as soon as he will vote for the Senate of Spain, where the majority belongs to the party of Rajoy.
