Naftogaz asked the US support to stop the project “Northern stream-2”
Uncategorized December 12, 2017KIEV. 12 Dec. UNN. The Chairman of the Board NAK “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andrey KOBOLEV urged the us side to consider more active steps to counter Russian bypass gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”. He said this during a meeting in Washington with representatives of the administration of President Donald trump and members of Congress, the press service of “Naftogaz of Ukraine”, reports UNN.
“The”Nord stream-2” will not only undermine the Ukrainian economy and will allow Russia to blackmail countries in Central and Eastern Europe, but also eliminate the only factor that is now forcing Russia to maintain at least some stability in the East of Ukraine. Now Russia needs the transit route through Ukraine to earn money by selling gas on the European market. However, if the “Nord stream-2″ build, the Ukrainian gas transportation system will no longer be a deterrent. Under such conditions, Moscow will be able to deploy a full-scale war in Eastern Ukraine. The United States must not let this happen,” – said KOBOLEV.
This position he voiced during a meeting with Senator Roger Vickery (Republican party of Mississippi), Chairman of the Commission on security and cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission.

“Lock “Nord stream-2” is the common interest of the United States and Ukraine. Naftogaz is struggling to stop this dangerous project, which could enhance the dependence of America’s European allies from Russia and make them more vulnerable to Russian influence. However, Russia has a lot of Western partners in this project. Naftogaz is unable to overcome the “Nord stream-2″. We need the support of the United States. It is important that the United States made clear that it is not ready to prevent the growth of Europe’s dependence on Russia,” he said.
During a visit to the Atlantic Council, A. KOBOLEV said that the joint efforts of the States and stakeholders in Europe will be able to stop the “Nord stream-2” and to protect common interests.
As reported UNN, the European Commission officially approved the proposal to extend the pipelines from third countries the requirements of the Third gas Directive, which will allow some control of the Russian pipeline “Nord stream-2”.
