Merkel discussed with Zelensky reformatting of the Trilateral contact group

KIEV. June 5. UNN. The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky had a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. The interlocutors discussed the work of the Trilateral contact group on the Donbas and the implementation of the December agreements “Norman summit”, reports UNN , citing the press-service of the President.
“During the meeting the two leaders discussed the issues of restoring peace in the Donbass and, in particular, the results of the working visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Germany on 2 June,” – said the President.
It is noted that in the conversation the sides noted high level of mutual understanding on key approaches to the peaceful settlement, underlining there is no alternative diplomatic avenues.
“It was a very informative visit which will give a boost channel format”, – said Zelensky.
The sides made a special emphasis on the need for consistent and steady performance of the parties involved of all the agreements reached during the Paris summit of leaders of the States – participants of the Normandy format, write in a press-service.
“We are open, we are ready to move forward. It is extremely important to ensure access of the International Committee of the red cross in the occupied territories to verify the detained persons. Also important is the access of the OSCE SMM monitoring. We want to define new areas of cultivation. Effective implementation of the agreements reached last year in Paris, should open the way for the holding of the next summit in Berlin”, – said the President of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side confirmed the readiness for the maximum coordination of efforts with partners in the field of peaceful settlement in the Donbass – Germany and France.
“Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed support for changes in the work of the Trilateral contact group initiated by Ukraine”, – assured the President.
According to the press service, Ukrainian President informed the Chancellor about the current security situation in the Donbass, noting problems that require particular attention from the international partners.
We also discussed a number of issues of Ukrainian-German bilateral agenda, in particular cooperation between countries in combating a pandemic, COVID-19 economic and financial relations.
The Ukrainian head of state thanked for a clear and coherent German position about the impossibility of changing the format of the “group of seven” to complete the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
We will remind, this week the Ukrainian delegation made an official visit to Berlin.
As reported UNN, during a visit to Germany met members of the Ukrainian delegation with Federal Minister of defence of Germany Annegret Kramp-of Karrenbauer, foreign Minister Haiko Maas, foreign policy adviser to Chancellor Jan Wekerom and Advisor to the Chancellor for economic Affairs Lars-Hendrik Rolleron.
