The former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk said that Kiev gave up nuclear weapons under threat of U.S. sanctions.

“We put it right before a choice — or we put nuclear weapons, or we will have economic pressure, including will impose sanctions,” — said Kravchuk in the air “24 channel”.

He noted that the value had economic problems inside the country, as the money for the maintenance of a large army was not.

Kravchuk added that he had no regrets about the decision to eliminate the nuclear Arsenal of the country.

On 23 July, the former President urged the new Ukrainian government not to appoint to senior positions of foreigners.
