In Zhitomir area security Service specialists of Ukraine detained eight members of the group of extortionists who threatened people with physical violence.

About this UNIAN reported in a press-group of management of SBU in the Zhytomyr region.

Operatives of the intelligence services established that the gang consisted of previously convicted residents of the area, led the group known in the region, “criminal authority”.

“Systematically creating an artificial conflict situation, members of the group demanded from representatives of commercial structures and wealthy citizens means for the resolution of disputes. The attackers had physical and psychological pressure”, – stated in the message.

In particular, the attackers demanded 2 thousand dollars from a private entrepreneur from Lyubar for alleged property dispute. In case of refusal from payment of the bandits threatened the businessman and his family with physical violence. Also, law enforcement officers documented the fact of extortion racketeers 3 thousand dollars from a resident Novograd-Volyn.

According to a report today at the same time law enforcement authorities have arrested eight members of the group in Novohrad-Volynskyi and Lyubar after giving them another “tranches” totaling more than 1 thousand dollars.

In the framework of criminal proceedings opened under part 2 of article 189 of the Criminal code of Ukraine, the issue of the notice the defendants in the case about suspicion and the election of a preventive measure.

Continues pre-trial investigation to establish all the circumstances of the illegal activities and prosecute the other members of the group.

Operation on detention of malefactors were carried out together with employees of national police with the participation of the special unit CORD under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor’s office.
