In Uganda traditional healers mass killing of children to stop the drought. They believe that the sacrificial rituals can bring fast wealth and health and making human sacrifices, in particular the killing of children, despite the government’s attempts to deal with this tradition, writes USA Today.
Seven children and two adults were sacrificed in 2016, told Moses Binoga – the police officer who heads a task force to combat victims of human trafficking in Uganda. Seven children and six adults were sacrificed in 2015.
In February of 2017 eight-year-old son Jacklin Mukisa were found in a swamp with no teeth, lips, ears and genitals. “My innocent son die a painful death,” says his mother.
Judging by the remains, the boy was slowly killed in a ritual human sacrifices by witch doctors to appease the spirits, said 28-year-old Mukisa, citing the police report.
The number of people sacrificed could be much higher. Uganda is going through hard times, and people offer sacrifices to alleviate their situation. East Africa was struck by drought, of which 11 million Ugandans have difficulty with food and 1.6 million are on the verge of starvation.
“Due to the ongoing drought, no food, and some believe that it is brought by the ancestral spirits,” explained the healer Joel Mugoya. People try to appease the spirits of the victims.
Recently, the police arrested 44 suspects in the mass murder of children and women in Kataby, a city 40 km from the capital of Uganda, Kampala. Half of the suspects were charged in court, including the two alleged organizers.
The chief police inspector of Uganda Kale Kayura said one suspect confessed to killing eight women, from 3 may to 4 September killed more than 21 women. Police announced that the murder was a ritual.
Francis Bahati, whose wife was sacrificed, her body was found after three-day search, her fingers and feet had been cut off for ritual purposes. “I was so shocked that fainted,” said the man.
In 2016, the police arrested 21-year-old Herbert’s Faith, resident of the city Busia in Eastern Uganda, who beheaded his eight year old brother, that the spirits helped him to get rich.
The police are the representatives of the Church who are trying to put an end to this practice. Three years ago, volunteers helped to arrest the healer and his associates, who sacrificed seven year old girl that pumped her blood and cutting off his genitals, and then bleed and 10-year-old brother of the girl. In June, a Ugandan court sentenced the witch to life imprisonment.
In Uganda – 650 thousand registered traditional healers and about three million unregistered, including wizards. Sacrifice children are found in other African countries – Tanzania, Nigeria, Swaziland, Liberia, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
