In Odessa, the official took bribes from shipmasters.

In Odessa the staff of SBU and Prosecutor’s office detained the chief specialist of regional management of Ukrtransagent suspected of systematic extortion of money from ship captains. About it reports a press-Service center.

According to law enforcement authorities, the official allegedly systematically demanded money with forwarding companies, captains of the Ukrainian and foreign vessels calling at the ports of Odessa region. Bribes are the main specialist is not documented irregularities to the courts, which could lead to emergency situations, according to the SBU.

“In case of failure to pay the official created artificial obstacles, which caused delays in the courts and, therefore, payment of funds for demurrage in ports”, – stated in the message.

According to the secret service, the suspect allegedly managed to obtain bribes of “hundreds of thousands hryvnias”.

“In the opinion of the relevant experts, the illegal actions of officials also negatively affected Ukraine’s international image and could lead to a reduction and reorientation of the cargo flows in foreign ports”, – noted in SBU.

Chief specialist was arrested by operatives of the Service on one of the streets of Odessa “during receiving from the intermediary a bribe in another $1.5 thousand.”
