KIEV. March 15. UNN. Unknown opened fire in a mosque in the city of Christchurch in the East of New Zealand. This was reported by local newspaper New Zealand Herald, reports UNN with reference also to The New York Times.
The armed police and special forces surrounded the mosque of al-Nur and Lynnwood Masjid and the building of the hospital in the centre of Christchurch in New Zealand. According to the newspaper New Zealand Herald, during a firefight killed at least 27 people.
“In connection with a serious shooting incident all schools in Christchurch are closed,” says the local police in Twitter.
It is reported that armed men entered in the mosque of al-Nur and Lynnwood Masjid, located next door, around 13:46 local time (03:46 Kyiv time), immediately after a day of prayer and blocked the front door. Witnesses reported that at the time of capture in the mosques remained about 200 and 300 people respectively. Then shots rang out.
At the moment the police does not confirm information about the victims, but urged citizens not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. All schools in the city are closed.
Also, according to witnesses, the attacker was recorded on camera shooting people.
In response to a serious ongoing firearms incident in Christchurch all Christchurch schools have been placed into lockdown. Police urge anyone in central Christchurch to stay off the streets and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to 111.
