KIEV. June 26. UNN. The national Bank of Ukraine does not consider possibility of introduction in Ukraine of plastic money. This was stated at a briefing the Director of Department of monetary circulation of the National Bank of Ukraine, Viktor Savenko, reports UNN.
“Required application in Ukraine of the money (plastic money – ed.) today there is no. You have to understand that this money is more expensive to manufacture. They need special equipment. If so to speak, it is necessary to build a new banknote factory in order to make the money and where to buy a printer the money. That is this plastic,” said he.
V. Savenko said that plastic money is available in those countries where there is a suitable climate that will allow them to stay longer in the circulation. He reminded that Ukraine 25 years ago built a full cycle of production of protected paper, and a few years ago mint was re-equipped with new lines for printing paper money.
In turn, the head of the organization, production and protection of money of currency circulation Department of NBU Volodymyr Tishchenko noted that among European countries the money entered Romania, and lately the UK to replace paper money with plastic.
In addition, he assured that today, paper money has more security features than plastic.
As reported UNN, the head of the NBU Yakov Smoliy and President of the Crane Currency Annemarie Watson on 22 June 2018 signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of manufacturing of banknotes. This creates the possibility for accommodation of foreign orders on production capacity of Ukrainian banknote printing and minting works.
