The Embassy of Armenia in London Azerbaijanis held a protest action due to armed clashes between the two countries over the status of Nagorno Karabakh, reports Russian service BBC.
Dozens of Azerbaijanis and the flags came to the Armenian Embassy and chanted slogans “Karabakh”, “Karabakh is ours, he is ours”, “Shame on Armenia”. Soon a fight broke out in which one person was injured.
Azerbaijani media report that the protest of Azerbaijanis attacked the Armenians. Armenian media say that the fight was provoked by the Azerbaijanis. Twitter has footage of the collision. After police intervention, the rally continued, then staged a picket in front of the Embassy, Azerbaijanis and Armenians confront them dispersed. The whole action lasted about 1.5 hours.
There are reports that during the scuffle one of the Azerbaijanis was a damaged nose, at one – eye.
The reason for the protests was the escalation of the border conflict and mutual attacks on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia, which killed a total of 16 people, including 11 Azerbaijani soldiers and one civilian, and four Armenian soldiers.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev called the incident a provocation of Armenia and accused Yerevan of trying to seize part of Azerbaijan’s territory. The Armenian foreign Ministry has accused Baku of targeted shelling of civilian infrastructure and the civilian population and “expanding the geography of tension.” This is the most serious border conflict in the region from April 2016.
