Massimiliano Fedriga opposed vaccination against smallpox, was hospitalized with the disease.
March 14 politician was hospitalized after Contracting varicella (chicken pox), and it is a few days spent in the hospital.
In the media and social networks pointed to the irony of the situation, because Fedriga repeatedly made against the compulsory vaccination of children in the country.
The document was adopted in 2017, and entered into force in March 2019. According to the law, children under 16 years of age should receive vaccinations against 10 diseases (including chickenpox), to be eligible to attend kindergartens and schools. Otherwise the parents of an unvaccinated child will have to pay a 500 Euro fine.
Fedrigo, who is head of the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, called the act a “Stalinist”. After several days in the hospital, he said that vaccination is necessary, but without “imposing” their parents.
He also informed that his children had been vaccinated.
