March 31 in the South-East of Iceland tourists had to flee from the large waves caused by the collapse of the ice outlet glacier Breidamerkurjokull. People were photographed on the beach, when there was an ice tsunami. Has done without victims.

Stefan Mantler of tourism companies Háfjall told broadcaster RÚV that the tourists were informed about the action in a similar situation. The guide said that they were not scared of the incident, but was excited.

He shared video of the incident on the page of the travel company in Facebook:

The company placed shot with a drone two days earlier, a video of the collapse of the glacier into the sea:

Note that such events pose significant risks to people on shore and at sea. There were times when wave after the collapse of the ice overturned the court of the tourists who approached too close to the glacier.

Another ice tsunami in March, which was caught on video, occurred in Antarctica. At the station “Progress” on the shore of Prydz Bay March 14, collapsed ice outlet glacier Dolk, which caused the formation of large waves, which, in turn, led to the destruction and movement of ice drifting and active movement accumulated along the station of the coast of large icebergs and their subsequent breaking and turning.

Was damaged around 70 m main drain line station with steel supports, damaged hydrological beams, the broken trailer from the vehicle “Argo”, according to Stormnews with reference to the Arctic and Antarctic research Institute (AARI).

The station staff carries out the repair and restoration of damaged station equipment. At the same time on the Chinese station Zhongshan swept all containers and other property, four containers carried in the water.

On the page “Antarctic Expedition,” the social network “Vkontakte” States that the spread of the resulting waves, led to the removal of ice on the coast of the Bay Beach to the depth of 100 meters. Its further spread was the cause active progress and partial collapses located in the Bay of icebergs.

One of dome-shaped icebergs with a length of 600 meters during the movement rested with the bottom part in the ground and broke into two parts, each of which overturned. This led to the formation of significant waves, which washed up on the coast of the Bay Beach additional portions of broken ice and fragments of icebergs (up to three meters in diameter).

Another danger in the Arctic regions are landslides. So, in June 2017 after the collapse of the soil into the sea the tsunami hit the town of Nyugatnak in the Western part of Greenland. The waves destroyed 11 buildings. It was reported 4 missing. Several people were injured. 75 residents were evacuated by military helicopters and ships.
