One of the participants of the meeting drew attention to the fact that the authorities did not reply to the request of the initiative group to assign a local ice arena, the name of the famous figure skater Denis ten, then how to change the name of the capital “takes place in record time, despite the fact that many do not agree with it.”

Portal GoPetition petition against the renaming of the capital, addressed to the new head of state, Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev, the Parliament of the Republic and members of the largest Pro-presidential party “Nur-Otan”.

The authors of the petition draw attention to the fact that the renaming of the capital is an important issue requiring public discussion by referendum. However, the government did not consider it necessary to hold such a discussion. In addition, the renaming of the capital means a huge investment budget, ranging from simple signage to changes in navigation systems and international treaties, which looks quite strange in the conditions of insufficient financing in many areas of life.

The name “Astana” is a brand that has emerged since the beginning of the transfer of the capital and only recently became recognizable in the international arena, the statement says. Therefore, the authors of the petition demand not to rename the capital to legitimately discuss this issue with residents of the Republic. The petition was signed by about 42.5 thousand people.
