Goals of Russia in the Donbas is unlikely to change – Volcker

Russia wants Ukraine was a large part of the Russian orbit, part of a large Slavic family, and its goal for Donbass will not change. In an interview with Russian radio station Echo of Moscow said the representative of the USA on Ukraine Kurt Volker.

“I do not expect that Russia’s aims will change (in Donbas – ed.). I think that Russia wants the Ukraine was a large part of the Russian orbit, part of a large Slavic family, had good relations with Russia and the government friendly to Russia. But ironically, the output is exactly the reverse,” said Walker.

According to him, Russia wants to feel responsible for all Russian-speaking people wherever they were.

“He wants to have a decisive influence on a neighboring country, and wants to be treated like one of the greatest forces in the world. And I do not think that the interests of Russia will ever change. But I think that they may be reviewed to determine which methods really work. For example, in Ukraine, throughout its territory, there is no threat to the Russian-speaking population”, – said Walker.

He added that people work and live a normal life. “And the only place where it is not, where people are suffering, is a place of conflict in the Donbass. And the ability to deploy the situation is in the hands of Russia”, – said the representative of the USA concerning Ukraine.

Walker recalled that the occupation of the retention areas is not working. “Of course, Russia will fight for the hearts and minds of Ukrainians for a long time, and nobody should be surprised, but this should be done in the legal field, but not when Russia invades Ukraine and takes her territory,” – he explained.

The representative of the USA on Ukraine is convinced that the war in the Donbas Russia brings costs.

“I think it’s worth Russia sanctions, reputation in the world, military spending, human losses, the Russians, who lose their lives in this war for nothing. So it is costly for Russia operation. But this is the choice Russia. And why would we really want is that Russia changed assessment of the situation and decided to withdraw from Eastern Ukraine. And if she leaves, then we will make sure that this treatment was successful for all,” said Walker.

The DNI and LC – terrorist organizations seized with the support of the Russian Federation of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine. Both organizations created, funded and maintained by Russia, where, among other things, the terrorists are getting fighters, trainers, and heavy equipment, weapons, ammunition, and fuel.
