Expert on security issues John Bambenek, who previously tracked the use of cryptocurrency by neo-Nazis, told reporters that a few accounts related to Wikileaks store 1500 bitcoins – $ 25 million. There are also another dozen or so accounts that have 60 bitcoins.
Journalists admit that WikiLeaks had not transferred their funds to another wallet, but for some reason, sent 1500 of bitcoins to someone else or WikiLeaks may have turned some of their bitcoin donations in a much more practical currency. The organization’s founder Julian Assange does not comment the situation.
“However, the use of bitcoins of WikiLeaks is not just a success story of cryptocurrency. The lack of information about how these funds are being used, raises questions, ironically, by advocating for the transparency of the group in respect of its own finances”, – noted journalists.
