Cup Deriugina was founded in 1992 year and was carried out personally, the most titled Ukrainian gymnast, only in the USSR, two-time absolute world champion Irina Deriugina as a gift to the 60th anniversary mom and coach Albina Deriugina, who is the coach of the notes on March 16. Over time this tournament became a “family” in the preparation of which taking part and the older dynasty Deryugin – Albina, youngest daughter Irene and granddaughter of Albina and Irina Blokhin. The coach of the national team of Ukraine in rhythmic gymnastics and choreographer Irina Blokhina is a daughter of famous Soviet athletes and, subsequently, successful Ukrainian coaches gymnast Irina Deriugina and the footballer Oleg Blokhin.
In March 1992, through the authority of the gymnasts and coaches Deryugin in Kiev – the capital of Ukraine, which gained independence and statehood only some four months ago, was attended by athletes from 18 countries. After another 5 years in 1997, the competition has received the status of Grand Prix. And Alex just had to gather all of the strongest gymnasts of the world. The tournaments of the Grand Prix pass accepted only in case of injury or do other force majeure. The fight for prize money and ranking points of the International gymnastics Federation (FIG) is very serious.
In the history of the tournament was the “darkest days” when competition was conducted for 4 consecutive years. In fact, in 2013-m to year competition and was not planned because of the world Cup, which the Ukrainian capital was attended at the end of August – beginning of September 2013. Well and further in our lives was broken by the war. And most prestigious tournament in rhythmic gymnastics in Ukraine was not carried out for security reasons.
To seek permission from FIG to the resumption of the tournament was only in February 2017, the year, as reported by the gymnastics Federation of Ukraine. And a month later promptly and in the shortest possible time organized a Cup tournament Deriugina again delighted the audience with its rich program and performances of the best athletes in the world. Definitely a gift for the 85th anniversary of this tournament was for Albina Deriugina.

This year on Saturday, March 16 Albina Deriugina will celebrate the 87th birthday and the strongest gymnasts of the world will once again gather at “her” tournament, to please the coach with their skills and compete for awards at prestigious competitions.
The main distinction of this year’s tournament will be extending it for the day for the nationwide tournament which will be held on Monday, March 18. It will be able to attend all of our athletes are second tier. Those who have reached the age of seniors, but the skill level falls to the national team and can claim to fight for awards in the main event of the Deriugina Cup and medal competitions of the Grand Prix series.
The tournament in 2019 will be attended by athletes from 38 countries, including from Russia, which is considered a leading nation in rhythmic gymnastics. In the main tournament will be attended by 2 of the leading athletes from the country, and with the juniors tournament and national tournament, which will take place on Monday, more than 300 participants.
According to Irina Deriugina, “it can not but rejoice. In Kiev always go with a great desire”.
“There will be 24-second account of the Cup. Believe me – this is for us a great challenge, stress, as well as new names. This Cup is famous because it involved absolutely all of the Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics. And most importantly, that all the names you know, started with this Cup”, – said Irina Ivanovna. Deriugina Cup is held in March and at one time was the first of the season tournament series Grand Prix. Accordingly, there was debuted by almost all the leading gymnasts of the world. In the world of gymnastics is not accepted to enter into the new names in the middle of the season. The team is formed during the winter break and then performs at competitions in the same line-up throughout the season. Only force majeure in the form of injury may force the coaching staff to make the change. But, and this is Irina Deriugina’s absolutely right, almost all of the future stars of world gymnastics began their journey at big tournaments, in Kyiv sports Palace.
As always, not without complications in the preparation for the tournament, what Deryugin almost every tournament says a lot, focusing particular attention to this: “Almost all the girls of the national team with new programs. But there are still errors, we’re working on. The main thing – that our children go the hardest way. For example, in the hall where we prepare, ceiling height 7 meters – here, in the “Palace of sport” – 16, for them it is a lot of stress. In this regard, we must build another room, there we will prepare for the European championship and the Olympic games. We hope that there will be a ceiling with a height of 14 meters”.

With regard to licenses for the upcoming Olympic games 2020 in Tokyo, now in gymnastics there are a lot of new names. Our country at competitions of the highest level is Vlad, Nikolchenko, Victoria Onoprienko, Christine Border and eve Meleshchuk.
“I want to say that we believe in our gymnasts, as it is important for us getting the Olympic license at the world championship. In the exercise group only will be awarded 5 licenses, and in the individual 15. If 15 will get 2 gymnasts, for us it would be a great achievement. We believe, dare, and really want to achieve this result”, adds Irina Deriugina.
The world Cup 2019 will be held from 16 to 22 September in Baku and will be the main pre-Olympic start in terms of drawing. And now the main goal of the national team of Ukraine – to prepare for competitions in the capital of Azerbaijan. A tournament in Kiev, even with the participation of top players in the world, a great opportunity to once again experience the atmosphere of a real feast of gymnastics, where there will be heavy and persistent struggle for the result.
Speaking of big competitions, it is impossible not to think about the championship. In the spring of next year (20-24 may), the tournament will be held in Kyiv sports Palace. And will also become a very important event in terms of preparation for the main start of four years – the Olympics. “This championship will be played on the latest license for the Olympic games in group exercises. This event will be monitored by the whole world, because Europe is currently the leading continent in rhythmic gymnastics”, – adds Irina Deriugina.
This year, the Deriugina Cup is the third stage of the Grand Prix. Already competed in this series in February in Russia (Moscow) and at the beginning of March in Spain (Marbella). In this case, the leader of the national team of Ukraine Vlad Nikolenko, qualified for all 4 finals of the tournament in Spain and won bronze in exercise with a Hoop. Also, the Ukrainian took the sixth place in the final with ribbon seventh place in the finals with clubs and eighth place in the final with the ball.
In addition, the Ukrainian team brilliantly passed both (hoops / clubs and 5 balls) in the exercise group, winning gold in combined events. Second place went to the team of Moscow, became the third hostess of the tournament – the Spanish flu.
At the Grand Prix of Moscow, of course, the national team of Ukraine did not go.
The leader of the national team of Ukraine 16-year-old girl from the town Vlad Nikolenko admits that her favorite subject is skipping rope, which is now not included in the four main types of the program of major competitions. In the current Olympic cycle, the medals are played in exercises with a Hoop, ribbon, clubs and ball. While jump rope was “the fifth extra” subject and is waiting for his “finest” hour – rotation exercises in the new Olympic cycle, which will be held in the fall of 2020, after the Games in Tokyo. Perhaps the rope will replace one of the now four main types of programs at seniors.
However, bronze award leader of the Ukrainian team in the exercise with a Hoop at the tournament in Marbella shows that she has excellent prospects in the “unloved” items. Nikolchenko, fighting equally well at a high level in all subjects, without falling beyond the dozens of top players in the world. But to achieve specific medals – it is rather a question of psychology and the experience of participation in international competitions of the highest level. This experience is gradually accumulated. And by Tokyo 2020 behind Ukrainka will have solid experience of performances at major international competitions – the world and European Championships, Grand Prix and world Cup.
