Athos still did not provide an answer about the enthronement of Epiphany

The monasteries of mount Athos still has not provided a response regarding the letter of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, on whether they take part in the enthronement of the head of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine (PCU), Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine, the Epiphany. This was announced on Monday by the Greek Church news Agency Romfea, reports UNN.

According to him, on Monday held an extraordinary session of the Holy Kinot of Holy mount Athos.

The monastic community considered the letter of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who asked the Athonite monks to send a delegation to participate in the enthronement of Metropolitan Epiphanios.

“Although so far there was no official information from the meeting, sources said that at the request of the Patriarch was not given a positive answer”, — stated in the message vidana Romfea.

According to the Agency, only seven of the 20 monasteries of mount Athos voted for participation in the enthronement, which will take place in Kiev on 3 February.

“The decision of Athos is a concern in the Phanar (district of Istanbul where the Ecumenical Patriarchate — ed.) because the Athos monks adhere to a balanced position and did not dare to openly take one side or the other,” says Romfea.

As reported UNN, the enthronement of the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine of the Epiphany will take place on 3 February.
