After Brexit, the expected expansion of the European Union – Mogerini

After the withdrawal of Britain from the European Union the number of member States would not be bound by the numeral 27, and the Union will be enlarged with new countries. This was stated by EU high representative for foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa.

“I am convinced that in the future the EU is limited to 27 member States, as we will have new members. I think this will be the Balkan country with whom we are negotiating on membership. Many call this process extension, I prefer to talk about the unification of Europe”, – said Mogherini.

The head of European diplomacy said that the path of the Balkan countries to the EU is still long and arduous, and not always linear. But I am convinced that the accession of these countries to the EU, only a matter of time, because “each of these countries has a common future in the European Union”.
