Walker on Monday, would Like to see peace in Ukraine to 2018

The representative of the USA on Ukraine Kurt Volker said that he would like to see the world in Ukraine next year. He said this in an interview with Echo of Moscow.

“I am still very hopeful in regard to Ukraine and would like to see peace in Ukraine in 2018. And it will require Russia’s withdrawal of troops, of arms and any support from the Donbass. But this requires security guarantees. Need time and safe space to be able to meet the requirements of the Minsk agreements: to hold local elections, to conduct the campaign, in the end, that BP began the process of Amnesty that the special status of the regions, for which Parliament has voted, were executed after the election,” said Walker.

According to him, for all this and need a peacekeeping force in the Donbass. “I still hope that we will be able to achieve it, and what Russia wants to resolve these issues and restore areas of Donbass for Ukraine”, – said Walker.

He added that in reality, the Russian intervention has led to the opposite result.

“Created in Ukraine, the government is more nationalistic, more skeptical in relation to Russia and more towards the West than it was ever before. And this, I think, was the unintended consequence of Russian actions. And I hope that this will become the basis of conflict resolution. We’ll be able to end the conflict and return to Ukraine control over its territories, to stop the strife,” – said the representative of the USA on Ukraine.

Walker stressed that Russia must know that for her there is a way she can resolve this situation in accordance with their interests. “But Russia also needs to understand that the path of further aggression, and the continuation of the conflict will not lead to improvement”, – he said.
