In Belarus, explained the vote against the UN resolution on Crimea
Uncategorized December 21, 2017The Belarusian foreign Ministry called the adoption by the UN General Assembly resolution on Crimea “an attempt of artificial politicization, inflation problems, which in reality is not.” This was stated by the head of the press service of the foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Shuplyak, noting that Belarus has always voted against “country-specific resolutions”, the press service of the foreign Ministry.
“Belarus has always voted against all country-specific resolutions. This is our principled position. We own experience know that such attempts of politicization, inflation problems, which in reality is not in society and state,” said Shuplyak.
He believes that the UN General Assembly is not a place for discussion and adoption of “such country-specific documents.”
“Voting against country-specific resolutions is not evidence of the insensitivity of Belarus to the concerns of their initiators. Our vote against this tool is an attempt to draw attention to it, not only inefficiency, but to his destructiveness. Without persistent search for ways and possibilities for rapprochement of positions, the scope of the indictment resolutions to solve existing problems not found”, – said the representative of the foreign Ministry of Belarus.
On 19 December, the UN General Assembly approved an updated resolution on “the Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, Ukraine”. The resolution voted 70 countries, against 26 countries, 76 countries abstained.
Against the resolution voted by Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Burundi, Cambodia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Philippines, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Sudan, Tajikistan, Syria, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
