The US will return to the issue of the return of Crimea to Ukraine – Tillerson

The United States will return to the issue of temporarily occupied Crimea, now a priority issue for them is the cessation of violence in Donbas. This was stated by the head of the state Department Rex Tillerson, speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, the Agency reports Deutsche Welle.

“We will return to the Crimea. I know that the President (of Russia – ed.) Putin gave to understand that this is to be discussed at the negotiating table will not. At some point will be, but now we want to stop the violence in Eastern Ukraine. Let’s see if we can resolve,” said he.

The state Secretary recalled that the basis for the imposition of U.S. sanctions against Russia was the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to him, restrictive measures will act to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

7 August 2017 Tillerson saidthat Putin’s regime demonstrates “some willingness” to negotiate resolution of the hybrid provoked by aggression of Russia the situation in the Donbass.

Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions. For the implementation by Moscow of the so-called elections with the participation of the Crimea in 2016-m to year the Parliament of Ukraine recognized the Russian state Duma is illegitimate.
