The court in Spain overturned the Declaration on the independence of Catalonia
Uncategorized November 9, 2017Spain’s constitutional court nullified a Declaration of the independence of Catalonia, adopted by the Parliament of the region October 27. About it reports Radio Freedom.
8 November Catalonia held a General strike – protesters blocked roads and Railways in protest against the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of the former head of autonomy Carles Pokdemon.
Some of the Catalan trade unions called for a General strike, but this proposal was not supported by the major trade Union associations. Also the protest actions joined by some Catalan universities.
27 October 2017, the Parliament of Catalonia voted for independence in the region. The Senate of Spain almost immediately issued its decision on the suspension of autonomy of Catalonia. Later the country’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy dismissed the Catalan Parliament and call an election.
On October 31 the Spanish constitutional court has temporarily suspended the proclamation of the independence of Catalonia.
