The first Minister in Germany entered into a same-sex marriage
Uncategorized November 1, 2017The Minister of environment of Germany, Barbara Hendricks announced that it has entered into a formal marriage with teacher Valerie Wasang. About it reports Deutsche Welle.
The report said that the ceremony took place on Monday in his hometown Hendricks Kleve.
It is also said that Hendricks announced his sexual orientation in 2013, with his companion she had met about twenty years ago.
On 30 June Germany’s Parliament approved a bill providing for full and equal recognition of same-sex marriages. Over 393 deputies voted against – 226, four abstained. The bill was proposed two years ago by the Bundesrat – chamber of the Federal States. On 20 July the law on same-sex marriage was signed by the President of GermanyFrank-Walter Steinmeier.
From 2001 to the present time, homosexual couples could register their relationship only in the form of same-sex partnerships. Such unions had fewer rights than heterosexual marriages. In particular, they until recently have not enjoyed relief from taxation provided in Germany to persons who are married, and still could not adopt children.
Germany’s first gay marriage was concluded on 1 October 2017.
