Ukraine has denied Saakashvili’s political asylum.

Former President of Georgia and former Chairman of the Odessa oblgosadministratsii Mikheil Saakashvili will not get in Ukraine for political asylum: State migration service refused to grant him refugee status. This was stated by Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko in interview to journalists, the correspondent of LIGA.net.

In September Saakashvili after his controversial return to Ukraine appealed to the GMS with a request to grant him additional protection. Almost simultaneously with this, the GPU began an investigation of the request of Tbilisi’s extradition policy.

“The migration service has denied Saakashvili’s refugee status,” – said Lutsenko.

According to the head of the GPU, the ex-Governor in court the decision was not appealed.

“So now he is a stateless person, without any special circumstances, which could avoid deportation or extradition. And the State migration service knows that for sure,” he said.
