45-year-old Bulgarian woman Teodora Balabanova died while trying to set a world record in scuba diving, reports offnews.bg.
The tragedy occurred in the Gulf of Toroneos.
Balabanov together with her husband Michael tried to go down to a depth of 231 meters (previous record was 211 m).
During the descent akvalangistka lost orientation in space and panicked.
Husband managed to rise to the surface and was taken to the hospital with signs of decompression sickness.
