Media: 20 Ukrainians acquired the citizenship of Cyprus in 2016

At least 20 Ukrainians in 2016, acquired the citizenship of Cyprus and got an EU passport. About this Deutsche Welle reported by one of the authors of the investigation concerning acquisition of nationality in EU money, an Italian freelance journalist Sarah Farolfi.

“Among these names there are contradictory figures. Not so much as among the Russians on the list, but is also” – said Farolfi.

According to her, among the 300 names of people who last year acquired the citizenship of Cyprus, more than 100 are Russian citizens.

According to the journalist, Russians occupy the first place in number of purchased EU passports in the past year. In second place are Ukrainians.

According to Farolfi, ten Ukrainians bought last year for €500 thousand so-called Golden visa in Portugal.

Visa gives permission to stay and work in the country for at least six years, and subsequently eligible for naturalization. In addition to the Ukrainians, last year, the Portuguese Golden visa acquired and 60 Russians.

Farolfi added that it was not all the lists of citizens who have bought a European passport.

“Therefore, she believes that names from Russia and Ukraine could be much more,” – the newspaper notes.

According to the Cypriot authorities, over the four years of the program of naturalization for the money it sold 1,300 passports.

On September 19 it was reportedthat the Ukrainian businessmen Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov, and Konstantin Grigorishin and Konstantin Stetsenko received Cypriot citizenship in exchange for investment in this country.
